Punjab Water Supply & Sanitation Department has set-up the solar power-based water pumps under its “Har Ghar Paani, Har Ghar Safayi” mission. In the pilot stage of this project, various water pumps were planted at the Jagrawan-Muradpur & Talwara villages of Jalandhar district in Punjab.
The project involved the installation of 150 meter deep tubewells, with a tank capacity of 25,000 liters that will be powered by solar panels & provide water supply to the households. This solar-based pilot mission was commissioned at the cost of Rs. 67.71 lakhs.
On the successful commissioning of these projects about 141 households in Jagrawan & Muradpur, & 102 households of Talwara village have been benefited. To meet the target of completing the full requirement of electricity to be produced by solar panels, well-managed programs have to be successful with higher efficiency.
Moreover, extra power generated by these solarized pumps can be used in public utilities like street lights. Locals getting benefitted from such missions sets an example. Village Panchayats would benefit from new facilities, without the additional recurring cost of electricity.
